Residents of Jennings Township will soon have an additional layer of protection against severe weather. Township Trustee Steve Sadler announced that the township’s third tornado siren will be installed on this Friday, April 4, at Wesley Chapel Church on Bogardus Road to serve residents in the northeast portion of thee township.

“We chose this location because of its elevation,” Sadler explained. “The church sits on a hill, which will allow the siren’s signal to reach a greater distance, benefiting not only our township but also some of our neighbors in Johnson Township.”

Sadler emphasized that safety remains the top priority for Jennings Township. “If we can help our neighbors while improving our own emergency preparedness, then it’s a win for all of us,” he added.

The trustee extended his gratitude to local taxpayers, noting that their support has made the installation of this third siren possible. He also thanked Pastor Stan Mohler and the Wesley Chapel Church board for agreeing to host the siren and cover its electricity costs, relieving taxpayers of that burden. Additionally, Sadler acknowledged board members Iva Gasaway, Mahala Baker, and Ron Howard for their dedication to public safety, as well as Jennings Township Fire Chief Joe Smith and 911 Director Jeremy McDaniel for their assistance in determining the best locations for sirens.

Looking ahead, Sadler revealed that discussions are underway for a fourth tornado siren to be placed in the southwestern corner of the township next year.

He also reminded residents of the purpose of these sirens: “They are designed to alert people who are outdoors that a tornado is possible, giving them time to seek shelter.”

With severe weather season approaching, the new siren installation marks another step in Jennings Township’s ongoing commitment to community safety, he said
