The three town parks in Crothersville will soon come under use restrictions by the public as a result of a proposed ordinance passed last Tuesday.
The town’s Bard Street Park, Countryside Park on County Road 1000 E and Veterans Park on W Main Street would all be affected by the proposed ordinance.
Parks would be closed to the public from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. without prior authorization of the town.
Dogs and cats can be walked in the parks only on a leash and any pet defecation must be collected and disposed of by the pet caregiver.
Park shelter houses and picnic areas can be reserved by permit. For business events there would be a $75 fee plus a $25 refundable deposit. For private reservations, the fee would be $25 plus a $25 refundable deposit.
Deposits are returned after an inspection of the area reserved is found to be free of damage and debris.
Charitable events can reserve park facilities at no cost. Violators can be subject to a $2,500 fine, according to the proposed ordinance.
The ordinance unanimously passed first reading at the council’s Dec, 6 meeting.
Also passing first reading was an ordinance to restrict parking in town owned parking lots. No overnight parking would be allowed from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. Violators would be subject to having their vehicle towed and impounded.
Both ordinances must pass second and third readings and be published in the Times.
