A Medora woman was one of 16 throughout Indiana to be awarded the Hoosier Hospitality Award during the Indiana Destination Development Corporation awards presentation last Thursday.

Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch presented Debra Wayman of Medora with one of the 16 tourism awards for her high level of service organizing and promoting and annual ‘Hope Medora Goes Pink Festival.’

“After she lost her parents to cancer, Debra recognized that families need money and support in the everyday struggle with the illness. So she created a festival to bring the Medora together to raise awareness and funds.,” wrote her nominator. “The Hope Medora Goes Pink Festival has grown into a wonderful celebration.”

“These award winners represent the best of our state from the Leisure and Hospitality Industry,” IDDC’s Secretary and CEO, Elaine Bedel said. “These individuals dedicate their time and service to showcase to visitors and their communities what a great place Indiana is to work, live and visit.”

Nominations for Hoosier Hospitality Awards are submitted by community members and are reviewed and selected by IDDC. The IDDC was formerly known as the Indiana Department of Tourism.
