Since the November 2022 announcement that GIM Inc. would be locating a manufacturing plant on Scottsburg’s westside, the company is nearing pushing the start button on production.
GIM Inc. manufactures Sandwich Plate System, or SPS®, a load-bearing structural composite panel with a high strength-to-weight ratio and extended fatigue life, which makes it an ideal replacement for concrete in bridges, parking garages, stadiums and arenas, heavy duty and clean room floor panels and farm applications, said company president & CEO Chris Gibbs.
GIM Inc. is the exclusive North American produce of SPS, a sustainable composite panel alternative to concrete, said Gibbs,
Modular, prefabricated SPS® avoids the negative environmental effects of concrete while offering time savings and reducing road shutdowns and slowdowns during bridge construction, allowing many highway bridge projects to go from 6 to 12 months to an install time of 45 days and less, he said. GIM’s product lines also include agricultural, commercial and industrial building steel frames and schools and universities.
So far, 20 employees—both production and management—have been hired at GIM and all are Scott County residents, said Tammy Johnson, Public Relations and Government Programs Director. “And we are looking to hire more,” she added.
Initially in 2023 the company plans to hire 50 workers with a starting wage of $28 an hour and adding to their workforce up to 135 over the next four years.
GIM Inc. is located at on a 57 acre campus at 1010 Weir Road in the formerly vacant Tokusen USA facility.
GIM, Inc. is a green sustainable manufacturing company founded to create and fabricate proprietary products for various industries and to provide structural engineering and design, with a proven network of suppliers to deliver on time.
Gibbs noted that the company has used Scott County businesses and services such as Ponder Electric, Hicks Painting, Ace Carpet & Flooring, and Amick Home Center in the plant renovations.
