Six people went to jail on a variety of charges last week after the investigation efforts of several area law enforcement agencies

On Saturday, March 2, Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Johnney Coomer was on patrol near the Scott/Jackson County Line on US Highway 31 when around 10:30 a.m. he initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by William M. Bogard, 64, of Seymour.

Bogard told the deputy he had no driver’s license and Coomer’s check in the IDACS/NCIC System revealed Bogard was wanted in Jackson and Clark Counties on warrants.

Searching Bogard’s vehicle, the deputy discovered over 29 grams of methamphetamine, a pound of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and over $1,401 in cash.

Bogard was transported to Scott County Jail where he faces charges of dealing in methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while suspended with a prior conviction.

On Tuesday, March 5, Scott County Magistrate Alison Frazier set Bogard’s bond at $100,000 and as of the newspaper’s press deadline, he remains in jail.

Deputy Coomer remained busy when on the next day, Sunday, March 3, he made a traffic stop shortly after noon on US 31 this time near the Scott/Clark County Line. During the traffic stop, the driver of the vehicle. Joni M. Tash, 46, of Jeffersonville was found to be operating on a suspended license. Coomer’s further investigation led to the discovery of over 9 grams of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Tash was transported to Scott County Jail where she faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana , and possession of drug paraphernalia

On Monday, March 4, Magistrate Frazier set Tash’s bond at $15,000.

Assisting at the scene were Scott County Deputies Cody Newsome, Isaac Stevenson, Jamie Royce, and Steven Frye.

On Sunday, March 3, Austin Police Officer Anthony B. White was patrolling on Mann Avenue in Austin when he observed a vehicle disregard a stop sign at Mann Ave. & Factory Drive, around 7:30 p.m.

The driver of the vehicle, Sarah A. Riley, 35, of Austin told the officer she had moved from Kentucky to Austin the day before and was unfamiliar with the area as the reason she did not stop at the stop sign, according to the probable cause affidavit..

While Officer White was checking for any warrants on Riley, Scott County Deputy Kacey Reschar arrived at the scene with his K-9 partner, Karma, who did an open air sniff around Riley’s vehicle. It was learned that Riley had a arrest warrant out of Kentucky and that Karma gave a positive indication of drugs in the vehicle.

While searching the vehicle White located an uncapped syringe containing a dark brown liquid and two gray containers in the center console and glove box with a white powdery substance, according to the court document.

Riley was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of a syringe, and maintaining a common nuisance.

A passenger in her vehicle, Michael S. Morgan, 42 of Austin was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a narcotic drug, possession of a syringe, and visiting a common nuisance

On Monday, Mach 4, they appeared before Magistrate Frazier who set their bond at $15,000 each.

Crothersville Police recovered a stolen car trailer the first weekend in March.

Acting on a tip Officer Zack Elliot and Chief Matt Browning on Sunday, March 3, went to a location in the 9900 block of E 500 S northwest of Crothersville on a report of a stolen car trailer.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the officers observed a trailer, recently painted red, in the residence’s side yard. At the residence they talked with Melinda Patterson, 56, or Crothersville and Robert Emerson McDaniel, 54, of Crothersville.

Officers observed that the vehicle identification plate on the trailer had been removed. When officers contacted the owner of the trailer, enough specific identification information was provided that determined they had located the stolen trailer which was returned to the owner, according to the court document.

McDaniel and Patterson were booked into Jackson County jail each charged with felony theft.

On Tuesday, March 5, they appeared before Jackson Circuit Court Judge Richard Poynter who released them on their own recognizance, according to court records.
