Hamacher Hall, Crothersville’s historical and cultural arts center, existed as the Presbyterian Church in Crothersville. Among those founding members were and early local industrialist Preston Rider and John Hamacher, who surveyed and founded the town that is now Crothersville.
The petition requesting approval to organize a Presbyterian church in Crothersville was forwarded to the New Albany Presbytery in 1885. Guidance was provided from Presbyterian elders from Brownstown and Seymour.
In 2001, the Greater Crothersville Heritage Foundation purchased and renovated the building and its annex. It has been renamed Hamacher Hall in honor of John Hamacher. The Foundation later donated the two buildings to the Crothersville Historical and Cultural Arts Association, and the facility has continued to host a number of public activities. The group’s mission is to encourage interest in the history of Crothersville and promote visual and performing arts.
