Scott County Sheriff’s Deputies solved two reports of vehicle theft recently.

Deputy Steve Frey was on patrol in northwestern Scott County in late March when he observed a black passenger car veer off of the road and into the grass before reentering the travel portion of the roadway. Frey made a traffic stop on the 2019 Ford and as he approached the vehicle, he noticed there was no license plate on it.

The driver of the vehicle Timothy J. Rose, 20, of Austin, told the officer he didn’t have a driver’s license and that he had stolen the vehicle from a car lot in Scottsburg earlier that evening.

Frey recovered the stolen vehicle and after notifying the owner of the dealership, he was able to assist the owner with securing the dealership office that was damaged when a door was forced open to enter the building where the vehicle keys were kept.

The deputy reported other keys were located placed near several vehicles on the lot, apparently so those vehicles could be stolen later as well.

Rose was arrested for auto theft and possession of marijuana.

Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Kacey Reschar and K-9 Karma were on patrol in Scottsburg when the deputy observed a traffic violation on a red Chevrolet truck traveling east on State Road 56 near Bond Street. The officer made a traffic stop and spoke with the driver Jaron Mullins, 35, of Austin.

While talking with the driver, the deputy thought he saw methamphetamine in Mullins’ hand and when he attempted to retrieve the suspected methamphetamine, Mullins began to resist the officer. Eventually landing both Deputy Reschar and Mullins on the ground. Mullins was eventually placed under arrest for resisting law enforcement and obstruction of justice.

A few days later a local resident reported a burglary at his home on East Cutshall Road to the sheriff’s office.

Deputy Zachary Brown’s investigation revealed the homeowner had been away from the residence for several months and upon his return, he observed the rear door of the home had been forced open and several items were missing, along with his red 1995 Chevrolet truck.

His investigation revealed the red truck was the same one stopped a few days earlier by Deputy Reschar.

On April 25, Mullins was arrested again and faces an additional charge of auto theft.

Both Rose and Mullins remain incarcerated in Scott County Jail.
