Acting on an anonymous tip, Crothersville Police officers arrested a local couple last Tuesday, April 9, for dealing methamphetamine.
Don Wayne King Jr., 36, and Bessie Mae Akers, 38, both of 313 E. Main Street in Crothersville face level 2 felony charges. Their residence is just over a block from Crothersville Community Schools.
According to CPD Chief Matt Browning, an anonymous tip started the investigation that led to over 85 grams of meth, a digital scale, numerous plastic baggies and smoking devices being found in the couple’s home.
Earlier in the day, officers obtained a search warrant through Jackson Circuit Court, according to the probable cause affidavit.
Officers from Crothersville, Seymour Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department went to the home shortly after 4 p.m. to serve the search warrant.
Officers secured the couple in their police vehicles.
According to the probable cause, officers started their search in King’s bedroom but found the bedroom door locked with a fingerprint locking device. Officers reported they removed the door hinge pins to gain access. Once in the bedroom there were multiple bags of suspected drugs and paraphernalia in plain view, the court document read.
The pair were booked into Jackson County Jail just before 7 p.m. As of the Times press deadline, they are awaiting their initial hearing before Circuit Court Judge Richard Poynter.
