Clerk-Treasurer Warns About 3rd Party Online Utility Payment
Town of Crothersville residents can be kept informed of emergency and local utility repair happenings with a new telephone based notification system.
When streets are going to be closed or water will be shut off for repairs the new system will call resident’s landline or cellphone or send a text of the notification. Additionally, for those who prefer, a message can be sent to an email address.
The notification service costs residents nothing to be included.
Other town events involving police and fire department activities will be included so residents can avoid the area of emergency.
There are about 750 residences and businesses inside the Crothersville town limits and, according to clerk-treasurer Danieta Foster and so far about 150 residents have signed up for the service.
Residents who wish to be included in the notification can call town hall at 812-793-2311 with their landline, cellphone or email information. Or sign-up can be done via the town’s Facebook page.
“When notifications are sent out the caller ID will come up as town hall and the town’s phone number,” said Foster. She noted that notifications will be sent out 24-hours a day as incidents occur.
Recently we have been having a problem with people paying utility bills through a website that is not ours, but comes up as Crothersville Utilities if searched, said the clerk-treasurer
“Crothersville Utilities Customers have had problems with online bill pay due to a third party site that appears to belong to the town of Crothersville. Bills paid through this site may not get to the town and may result in loss of service for unpaid bills,” said Foster.
“Please do not pay any bills for Crothersville Utilities through Doxo.com, this site has no connection to the town of Crothersville,” she said. Crothersville Utility Bills may be paid online at crothersville.net through Invoice Cloud.
