Free Clinic At Fire Station Tomorrow
An Indiana Department of Health report by zip code shows that Austin and Crothersville are among the communities in the Jackson and Scott County with the lowest percentage of vaccination rates against COVID-19.
According to the IDOH, the Austin zip code of 47102 has 2,101 of 5,959 people totally vaccinated representing just 35.25% of the population; the lowest in Scott County.
Just 1,117 of 2,687 people living in the Crothersville zip code 47229 have been fully vaccinated representing 41.57% of those living within that zip code.
With the Delta variant of the coronavirus increasing dramatically among the unvaccinated in Indiana and the nation, it is critical that residents in this two-county area get the vaccine, health officials said.
Jackson County Health Department will be at the Crothersville-Vernon Township Fire Department providing COVID 19 vaccination for anyone over the age of 18 tomorrow (Thursday) Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to Lin Montgomery, JCHD public health coordinator.
“This free clinic is open to everyone regardless of where they live,” she said. No appointment is necessary.
The single shot Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine is available. There is no charge for the vaccination, she emphasized.
The vaccination clinic will take place in the fire department rear parking lot off US 31 & Short Street.
In the Scottsburg zip code of 47170 there are 5,720 of 12,828 people who have received the vaccine for a 44.58% rate.
Lexington (47138) has 1,579 of 3,899 people vaccinated for a rate of 40.49%.
The two least immunized communities in Jackson County are Medora (47260) with 566 of 1,478 residents being totally vaccinated for at rate of 38.29%. The rural zip code of Norman (47264) has 431 of 1,094 people vaccinated for a 39.39% rate
The two highest vaccinated communities in Jackson County are Vallonia (47281) with 607 of 1,029 people or 58.98% and Freetown (47235) with 678 of 1,238 people or 54.76% being totally vaccinated.
Brownstown (47220) with 2,292 of 4,971 people vaccinated for a rate of 46.1% and Seymour (47274) reported 12,745 26,104 people vaccinated for 48.82%.
It was noted that frequently zip codes spill over into other counties. For instance some Austin zip codes are in southern Vernon Township in Jackson County and some Crothersville zip codes are in Jennings County.
In the state of Indiana 2.99 million people are fully vaccinated representing 44.5% of the population.
