Citing personal and family reasons, Crothersville Clerk-Treasurer Staci Peters resigned her elected position last week at town hall. Council President Danieta Foster made the announcement prior to last Tuesday’s town council meeting.

Foster also said that she would be resigning as council president and her position on the council to be appointed as the town’s clerk-treasurer.

This is the second change in the council. Earlier this year councilwoman Katie Masters resigned her elected position to take a job in the town hall office. She was replaced by on the council by former clerk-treasurer Terry Richey.

Foster, who is serving in her second term, said on her Facebook page, “Though my role with the town will change, I will tackle the position with the same passion as I have had for the last six years. There is a lot to learn, so bear with me. A prayer or two wouldn’t hurt, either.”

Foster was sworn in as the new clerk-treasurer last Wednesday before county clerk Melissa Hays. She took the oath of office with her mother holding her late father’s Bible.

In announcing her resignation on her Facebook paged, Peters wrote, “I don’t feel I was living up to what needed to be done. I was bringing my work into my home life, and it was affecting my family.”

“I love this town and would do anything to make it a better place. I don’t feel I was doing as good as I set out to do,” she continued. “That job is very important and very difficult. My family comes first, and that hasn’t been happening for a very long time. I don’t like the person I was becoming. Today, my shoulders aren’t heavy, I’m not screaming on the inside and above all, I am on the road to get my family life back the way it was.”

Peters was elected in November 2019 and took office in January 2020. Foster was elected to the council in 2015.

The Jackson County Republican Party is now searching for a person to fill Foster’s vacancy on the council. As council vice president, Jason Hillenburg steps up to the presidential leadership.

Foster will be serving as clerk-treasurer only, as Richey did for the two terms she held that office, Richey also serves as the treasurer for Crothersville Community School. Michele Teipen, a former clerk-treasurer who works in town hall as the first deputy, was appointed as office manager at a rate of $19 per hour. The appointment was approved 4-0 with Foster abstaining.
