A Uniontown area woman faces a charge of possession of methamphetamine following a traffic stop in Austin last Tuesday, Feb. 13.
Melissa Cox Williamson, 53, of the 1400 block of S County Road 1100 E northwest of Uniontown, was arrested by Austin Police officer Joshua Vires.
Vires said he was driving north on US 31 around 8:19 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, when is observed a northbound red Dodge weaving from lane to lane. After activating his emergency lights the Austin Police officer said the vehicle pulled into Red Oak Way and stopped.
The driver of the vehicle, Williamson, told the officer the reason she was swerving was because she was trying to locate her cigarettes. Vires was writing Williamson a written warning for the traffic violation when Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Kacey Reschar arrived with his K-9 partner Karma.
An open air sniff walk around by Karma indicated the presence of drugs in the vehicle. Searching the Dodge, officers found a silver color bag in a purple backpack containing a white powdery substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Williamson told the officers that the bag was hers and that she had previously stored her personal use marijuana. “Melissa advised she is unaware of how the white powdery substance got into her vehicle,” according to the court document.
Officers transported Williamson to Scott County Jail where she was booked in at 9:46 p.m.
