A 43-year-old Madison woman was booked into Scott County Jail on Sunday night, May 12, following a traffic stop on Austin’s northside.
According to Austin Police Officer Joshua Vires, he was on patrol around 9:40 p.m. on northbound US 31 when he observed a dark passenger car cross the center line two times. He pulled the vehicle over near Manaugh Park.
The driver was identified as Ashley Hand, 43, of the 200 block of Wildwood Drive in Madison.
Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Kacey Reschar and his K9 partner Karma arrived to assist. Doing an open air walk-around sniff, Karma alerted the deputy to the presence of drugs.
Officers searched Hand’s vehicle and located a silver colored compact in her purse. Inside they found a white powdery substance on the mirror that tested positive for methamphetamine.
According to the officer’s probable cause affidavit, Hand told police she was a week clean and had no idea why (the meth) would be in her car.
After being transported to Scott County Jail, female jailors located a blue pill in her bra. From its markings officers identified it as a pressed fentanyl pill.
Hand faces felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and possession of a narcotic drug. Last Tuesday, May 14, Circuit Court Magistrate Alison T. Frazier set Hand’s bond at $65,000.
