There will be rematches for mayor in the November election this year for Austin and Scottsburg residents.
In Tuesday’s primary election for Austin, incumbent Democrat Roger Hawkins turned back challenges from two other Democrats.
Voters gave Hawkins 209 votes to 180 for John Ashby and 13 for Frank Noble.
This sets up a rematch of the 2019 election with Republican Jonathan White who ran unopposed in the GOP Primary.
In the only other Democrat race in Austin, Brandon Glenn White received 248 votes over his challenger Trevor McIntosh 235 to receive the nomination for City Council at large.
In Scottsburg, there will also be a rematch of the 2019 race with incumbent Democrat Mayor Terry Amick facing a challenge from Republican long-time former mayor Bill Graham.
Two city council seats were contested in the GOP Primary. Timothy Hall received the nomination for City Council District 1 receiving 39 votes over Chris Albertson’s 12.
Monty Sutsman got the Dist. 3 GOP nomination with 35 votes over 23 for Larry Haven.
In the only other area primary race, incumbent Republican Seymour mayor Matt Nicholson easily turned back a GOP challenge from Dan Robison 1,020 to 700.
Crothersville, Brownstown and Medora will have town conventions later this summer to nominate council candidates.
