On Monday, May 8, around 4 a.m., Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Donavan McCutcheon stopped a 2015 silver Nissan passenger car near the intersection of Church Street and Blunt Avenue in Austin for several traffic violations. The driver, Joseph A. Brooks II, 45, of Clay Street in Austin, was found to be driving on a suspended license.
During the roadside investigation, Deputy McCutcheon discovered Fentanyl pills, Methamphetamine, Marijuana, and drug paraphernalia concealed inside the vehicle. Based on the number of drugs and the packaging material located in the vehicle, the Deputy arrested Brooks for dealing and other drug violations.
Brooks was transported to the Scott County Jail without incident, where he remains in custody after being charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of controlled substance, maintaining a common nuisance, dealing in narcotic drug.
First Sergeant Charlie Morgan of the Sheriff’s Office and Officer Robert Gudgel of the Austin City Police Department assisted at the scene.
On Thursday, May 11, Scott Circuit Court Judge Jason Mount set Brooks’ bond at $50,000.
