Families will enjoy historic fall fun at the Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge east of Seymour, this Saturday Oct. 10, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m., at the annual “Log Cabin Day” festival at the Refuge’s historic Myers Cabin.
At this free event hosted by the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society friends group, visitors will experience what life was like back in Southern Indiana’s frontier days of the late 1880s.
The fun includes live old-time music performed by the Squirrel Butter Band, historic storytelling, Myers Cabin tour, blacksmithing, pioneer demonstrations, children’s activities, native animal skins, Chore-Corral where kids learn pioneer chores and an old fashioned free ham and bean lunch cooked over an open fire with homemade cornbread. Also folks can watch noted Jackson County artist, Maureen Pesta, create a plein-art pastel of the cabin.
All ages will enjoy this not to be missed experience of Old-Timey fall fun surrounded by the Refuge’s natural beauty.
Amidst the fall colors, it will also be a perfect day to bird watch, fish and hike the Refuge trails including areas normally closed to the public. Everyone should also stop by the Visitor Center, shop the Nature Store and celebrate National Wildlife Refuge Week, October 10-17.
The Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge is located on U.S. Highway 50 just 3 miles East of Seymour. For more information about these events and the Muscatatuck Wildlife Society visit on Facebook and Muscatatuck.org.
