Anthony J. Reed, 38, of Madison was sentenced on Monday, Sept. 28, to a total of 24 years following his conviction for a felony charge of aggravated battery, and a habitual offender.
Under the sentence imposed by Scott Circuit Court Judge Jason Mount, Reed will serve 15 years in prison at the Indiana Department of Correction, two years on home detention and seven years on probation.
The case arose from an early morning incident on Dec. 1, 2024, according to Scott County Prosecutor Chris Owens. Officers with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an area along State Road 256 after a good Samaritan reported the incident. Through the investigation conducted by the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police, authorities determined that the victim had been battered by Reed. Law enforcement officers obtained witness statements, located the firearm used in the crime, and collected additional evidence connecting Reed to the crime.
Reed was originally charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, pointing a firearm at another, and two courts of robbery causing bodily injury.
Because Reed had multiple prior felony convictions in Jefferson County, his sentence was enhanced under Indiana’s Habitual Offender statute, Owens said.
“This sentence holds Anthony Reed accountable for a serious act of violence and recognizes his history of felony criminal conduct,” Owens said. “Cases like this require thorough investigative work and careful prosecution. I want to thank the Scott County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police for their work in investigating this case that allowed us to successfully prosecute it. I also want to recognize Deputy Prosecutor Mark Kiesler for his work in obtaining the conviction and securing a sentence that protects the community and holds the defendant accountable.”
