A 38-year old Scottsburg man is facing 20 felony counts of possession of child sex abuse material and one count of distribution of child sex abuse material, according to the Scott County Prosecutor’s office.
Michael Cody Anderson of the 600 block of South 3rd Street, was booked into Scott County Jail at 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, facing a number of possession of child pornography and child exploitation charges.
According to the probable cause affidavit, filed by Scott County Sheriff’s Detective Kevin Huber, on April 30 the officer received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children that videos and images of pre-pubescent children engaging in sexual performances and conduct were downloaded to a Samsung phone with a serial number that was owned by Anderson.
Huber obtained a Google search warrant for Anderson’s account that established that he had downloaded the images using a gmail account that traced back to him.
According to the court document, on July 8, a residential search warrant was served with other members of the Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force as well as assistance from other Indiana Law Enforcement Officers at Anderson’s 3rd Street residence.
Anderson’s cellphone was located and seized along with six other electronic devices which were turned over to the Indiana State Police to be forensically examined.
Additionally, a green leafy substance that field tested positive for marijuana and two glass smoking pipes with marijuana residue was located in Anderson’s room in the residence.
According to the court document, Indiana State Police forensic analysis there were 20 files of child sexual abuse on Anderson’s cell phone from the Indiana. Authorities said Anderson electronically shared one of the videos with another person.
Anderson is facing one felony count of distributing child sex abuse material, 20 felony counts of possession of child sex abuse material, and misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
On July 13, Scott Circuit Court Magistrate Alison Frazier set Anderson’s bond at $500,000 full cash only.
