Indiana State Police arrested an Austin man last Tuesday, July 14, following an investigation that began in March after a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Detectives with the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force in Sellersburg launched the investigation after receiving information indicating that images of child sexual abuse material had been uploaded through an electronic service provider.
During the investigation, detectives identified the suspect living in Austin. Authorities obtained search warrants for the residence.
On July 14, troopers with the Indiana State Police went to the home of James Adam Meredith, 40, of the 5200 block of N. Jack Morgan Road and after serving the warrant and questioning him, took Meredith into custody.
He was booked into Scott County Jail at 11:23 a.m., July 14.
Meredith faces preliminary charges of five felony counts of possession of child sexual abuse material.
The Indiana Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force is a multiagency task force that investigates and prosecutes persons who use the internet to sexually exploit or entice children, and the Indiana State Police oversees the task force.
The Indiana ICAC Task Force encourages Hoosiers to report online exploitation, solicitation, and enticement-type crimes against children to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC). The NCMEC website can be accessed through the ICAC Task Force website.
