The filing period for candidates to file for political office began Wednesday, Jan. 7 and runs through noon on Friday, Feb. 6
The Primary Election will be held Tuesday, May 5.
First day filers in Jackson County were all Republican. The were: Dustin Steward and Roger Drew for Sheriff, Hope Cissna for Clerk, Jake Brown for County Council District 1, Bri Roll for County Council District 3, Brady Riley for County Council District 4, Jennifer Isaacs for Recorder, Andrew Stauffer for County Commissioner District 3, AmyMarie Travis for Jason Superior Court 1 Judge, Lynsey Fleetwood for Prosecuting Attorney, Ron Rieckers for Grassy Fork Township Trustee, Jeff Joray for Jackson Township Trustee, and Leslie Chastain for Carr Township Board.
In Scott County, the biggest surprise was Democrat incumbent Prosecutor Chris Owens who filed for re-election as a Republican. Other GOP candidates filing on the first day was Scott Zellers for Sheriff, Randall D. Maxwell for State Senator District 43 and Tammy Lowe Caudell for Lexington Township board.
On the Democratic ticket first day filers were Brad A. Meyer and Keil L. Roark for 9th District Congress, Byron E. Holland State Senator District 43, Ryan Price for State Representative District 66, Chris Bowen State Representative District 69, Joe Guarneri for Sheriff.
