Following an Indiana State Police investigation which began in May, officers arrested 35-year old Jeremy Wayne Underwood, of the 600 block of E. Market Street in Salem on three felony counts of child molestation on Sunday, Aug. 3, according to ISP Sgt. Carey Huls.

On May 19, 2025, an Indiana Department of Child Services family case manager reported allegations of inappropriate sexual contact between Underwood and a minor to ISP Detective Travis Baker, who then launched a criminal investigation. The investigation was conducted along with DCS personnel and included a forensic interview with the victim at a local child advocacy center.

Following his investigation, Detective Baker presented the information to the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office. An arrest warrant was issued for Underwood on Tuesday, July 29, charging him with three felony counts of child molestation.

On Sunday, Aug. 3, Underwood was located and arrested by officers with the Salem Police Department and incarcerated in Washington County Jail.
