Former deputy prosecutor Lynsey Fleetwood was sworn in June 30 by Jackson Superior 1 Judge AmyMarie Travis to become the county’s second female prosecutor following a caucus of Republican precinct committee leaders

Travis became the first elected female prosecutor in 2014 after being appointed to that position in 2012 when then prosecutor Richard W. Poynter was elected Jackson Circuit Court Judge.

Amanda Cunningham, the chair of the Jackson County Republican Party, said Fleetwood was the only candidate to file to replace Jeff Chalfant, whose resignation was official on July 1.

“Serving this community has always been a privilege, and I am truly grateful to continue that service in this new role,” said Fleetwood. “I’m eager to get to work — pursuing justice and doing my part to keep Jackson County safe.”

Fleetwood, 28, is originally from Fishers, and said she will be making some changes and plans to slow down some to better identify who her office is dealing with in each criminal case.

Fleetwood said she wants to hear the issues and concerns of the public so the prosecutors’ office can do the best job possible.
