Scottsburg City Board of Works and Public Safety approved a bid from Temple and Temple of Salem for lining sewers at their regular meeting on October 9.
The project is to replace the clay and tile pipes and lining pipes to prevent infiltration of water and keep extra water from entering the water waste plant for treatment, said Scottsburg Mayor Terry Amick
Midwestern Engineer Inc. project engineer Scott Siple told the board that there were two bids to update the pipes. He said the bids were from Temple & Temple Excavating and Paving of Salem for $998,202.77 and Insituform Technologies LLC of Chesterfield, MO for $1,168,551.74.
Siples recommended going with Temple and Temple due to the cost being in the budget for the city and the existing relationship between the city with Temple and Temple.
A State OCRA grant will pay $750,000 and the city will contribute the balance.
“We continue to work on our efficiency for the city of Scottsburg. The more surface water we keep out of sewer system, it just gives us more capacity at the sewer plant,” Amick said.
The Board of Works unanimously approved the bid from Temple and Temple contingent on OCRA’s approval of the bid
