A small plane crashed in southern Scott County around 7:22 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 1, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of 2527 S. Lake Road in northeast of the Scottsburg Municipal Airport.

The plane, a homemade ultralight, was located and the pilot was flown by Air Ambulance to a hospital in Louisville, Kentucky for treatment. The pilot’s name and condition is not known at this time, according to a Scott County Sheriff’s news release.

News reports indicate that the crash happened shortly after take-off from the airport. Witnesses said the plane, piloted by a 76-year-old man from Clark County, took off, veered right and went down in a cornfield.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) will be in charge of the crash investigation upon their arrival on the scene, according to Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin.
