Crothersville FFA members Leah Schill, Chester Jones, Dillon Maxie and Brooke Prather work to box up some of the over 7.5 tons of food distributed to 96 families last Saturday during the Crothersville FFA Toy & Food Drive.
With smiles on their faces, Crothersville FFA members spent the first Saturday of their Christmas break from school delivering food and toys to families throughout the Crothersville community. Braving cold weather, rain and snow, members delivered over 7.5 tons of food.
Working many hours ahead of time goals were met to ensure that the 96 families received a brighter holiday.
“The Toy and Food Drive is my favorite FFA event. I enjoy seeing the smiles on the faces during delivery day and the good feeling I receive of helping others,” said FFA member Joey Needler. “It is really rewarding to everyone.”
Members spend many hours throughout the year raising money for the Toy and Food Drive. Frying pork burgers, hosting a craft show, and many other activities help towards the purchase of food and toys for this event. This year FFA members raised over $6,000 to help make the purchases for food.
Along with food and toys, 150 fruit baskets were made by members and hand delivered to families and the elderly.
The Crothersville-Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department helped the FFA with delivering the food and toys.
“Being with the FFA members and delivering the food and toys makes my holiday season. I enjoy delivering to the apartments because everyone is there; all the firefighters, members, trucks, and many smiles,” said Charlie Densford Fire Chief.
The Fire Department and community volunteers are a huge help in the success of the Toy and Food Drive.
“My favorite part is riding on the fire trucks,” said Chandler Nehrt. “Riding through town with everyone looking to see what is going on is awesome because when they see FFA members sitting on the trucks they know that Crothersville FFA is at it again to spread holiday cheer.”
