Scott County Fair is quickly approaching beginning this Sunday. There are always traditions that remain for the events in which people participate.
For the Jones family, they sell snow cones at the corner east of the grandstand entrance. It is always hot and humid during fair week and a sweet & fruity icy treat can help cool and quench one’s thirst.
Sue Jones, of Scottsburg, along with her children and grandchildren have been selling snow cones to the Scott County Fair visitors for the last 55-plus years. The booth has been operated by four generations of the Jones family.
Sue said that the booth was begun by Marshall and Lenora Jones who started selling snow cones so the kids had something to do around the community.
She said that the original snow cone machine that was used when the family first started is still being used today.
The booth where the family sells snow cones is also the original stand and location, though the stand used to be considered under the grandstands before they were renovated.
Sue said that her daughter, Cindy Guy, has always worked with her on the snow cones since she was 10 years old.
The snow cone booth will be open and serving the icy treats July 5-8 during next week’s Scott County Fair.
