On Wednesday, May 4, Scott County Sheriff Deputies and Austin City Police Officers served a search warrant at a residence in Austin where drugs and drug paraphernalia were seized, according to Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin.
Detective Lieutenant John Hartman developed probable cause of illegal activity at the residence on Cross Street after conducting an investigation that started from a tip from a concerned citizen, Goodin said. Scott County Circuit Court Judge Jason Mount signed the search warrant which began the arrests last week.
Arrested at the scene was Brenda Swafford, 35, of Austin and Justin Jewell, 44, of Austin.
In addition to new drug charges, both Jewell and Swafford were currently on probation on drug dealing convictions through Scott County in 2021. The following charges are from this latest search warrant:
Brenda Swafford was charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, neglect of a dependent, possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
Justin Jewell was charged with possession of methamphetamine, maintaining a common nuisance, child neglect, possession of a syringe, possession of marijuana, and possession of paraphernalia.
In other arrests last week, on Thursday, Apr. 28, Alexander Riley, 23 of Crothersville, was arrested on a warrant for dealing in methamphetamine.
On Friday, Apr. 29, Makenzie Smith, 23 of Franklin was arrested on a warrant for possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine and possession of narcotic drug.
On Sunday, May 1, Jerry Seaver, 34 of Scottsburg was arrested for maintaining a common nuisance, possession of a controlled substance, obstruction of justice, and possession of marijuana.
On Monday, May 2, Benton Shields, 19 of Lexington was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance.
On Tuesday, May 3, Trenton Ragland, 20 of Scottsburg was arrested for possession of a firearm by a serious felon and carrying a handgun without a permit.
That same day, Oma White, 43 of Austin was arrested for on 4 counts of theft, possession of a legend drug, criminal mischief, criminal trespass, possession of scheduled substance, false informing, and identity deception.
On Thursday, May 5, Chelsey Sears, 31 of Middletown, OH was arrested for possession of a controlled substance, possession a legend drug, maintaining a common nuisance, trafficking with an inmate, and possession of methamphetamine.
All were incarcerated in Scott County Jail.
