Scottsburg City Board of Zoning Appeals voted to deny zoning variances for a proposed new home construction in Vienna when they met Monday, Oct 16, after residents of the area voice opposition to housing again.
Legacy Village is a residential project planned for a 30-acre parcel at 2693 South Vienna Road at the corner of Vienna Road and Highway 356 south of Scottsburg. While the community of Vienna is not in the city limits of Scottsburg, it does fall within the two-mile fringe area outside the city limits which is a part of the city’s development jurisdiction
The variance request for the agricultural zoning had to do with 3 housing lots with a 150 feet road frontage variance, said Board of Zoning Appeals Chair Josh Schulze.
Residents of Vienna again spoke up against the variance, stating that the developers, Jerry and Jeff Mills had plenty of road frontage on the 30-acre parcel without the variance. The other major topic brought up by residents was that the request was a want, not a necessity to be able to build the homes.
The Board of Zoning Appeals denied the approval for the variances with Schulze abstaining from the vote.
