Indiana State Police (ISP) detectives are investigating an alleged attempted murder case after a female victim was brutally stabbed in the early morning hours Thursday, Feb. 27.
According to ISP Sgt Carey Huls, around 2:30 Thursday morning, Austin Police and Scott County deputies contacted ISP after locating a man and a woman near the side of York Road, a rural county road just west of Austin. Both individuals were taken to Louisville hospitals for apparent stab and knife wounds. Authorities also observed an unoccupied vehicle nearby. A call to 911 first alerted the police to the possibility of an incident.

ISP Detectives believe the male subject, Nicholas Braydan Atwood, 22, of Vallonia, repeatedly stabbed his female companion after the two went driving together in rural southern Indiana.
After receiving medical treatment, Atwood was arrested by ISP detectives and is currently held at the Scott County Jail on charges of aggravated battery with bodily injury, battery with a deadly weapon, battery with serious injury to another, and attempted murder.
The female victim remains hospitalized in critical condition.
Huls said the investigation is continuing and further charges are possible.
