A Uniontown man was jailed Sunday evening, Nov. 2, arrested for sexual battery.
Melvin Ray Owen, 74, was booked into Jackson County jail at 6:42 p.m. after an investigation by Crothersville Police Sgt. Vurlin McIntosh and Officer Daryl Hickman.
According to police, Owen was allegedly driving a 16-year-old girl to Crothersville around 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov, 1, when, according to the victim, he placed his hand on her breast. The girl reported the incident to police.
Charges are pending in Jackson Superior Court in Seymour, workers in the county prosecutor’s office said.
Owen was a spokesman for the Jackson County Watchdogs, a group protesting the Lions Den, an adult bookstore in Uniontown since the store opened over three years ago.
