Armed with a search warrant, around 6:30 p.m. last Wednesday, Aug. 24, law enforcement officers from the Scott County Sheriff’s Department and Austin Police Department raided a Hill Street residence on Austin’s north side that resulted in the arrest of three people on a variety of drug charges.
The investigation into the suspected sale and distribution of illegal drugs from the residence at 94 Hill Street began after citizen complaints were received by the Sheriff’s Office, according to Scott County Sheriff Jerry Goodin. “Those complaints resulted in an undercover operation that culminated (Wednesday evening) in the removal of drugs and offenders from our community,” said Goodin.
Seized at the residence was more than two ounces of methamphetamine, heroin, drug paraphernalia, and various items used in the sale and distribution of illegal drugs.
Arrested at the residence were 65-year old James ‘Boogie’ Johnson, his 38-year-old son Clarence Johnson, and 58-year-old Linda Wilkens, all of Austin.
The elder Johnson faces charges of dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine and maintaining a common nuisance while the younger Johnson faces charges of possession of a legend drug and maintaining a common nuisance.
Wilkens was charged with possession of a narcotic drug, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a common nuisance,
Additionally, while processing Wilkens into the Scott County Jail, approximately 1.5 grams of methamphetamine was discovered by jail deputies concealed on her, apparently attempting to smuggle the drug into the jail, resulting in an additional charge of trafficking with an inmate.
Following the arrest Sheriff Goodin said, “If a uniformed deputy doesn’t see you breaking the law, a citizen will. And the citizens of Scott County and the Scott County Sheriff’s Office are in a partnership…the citizens are the extended eyes of the Sheriff’s Office. We started this partnership when I became Sheriff and that will not change.”
