Residents of Crothersville and Vernon Township are encouraged to stop by the Antiques Building at the Jackson County Fair to view a Crothersville 150th birthday exhibit. According to Sesquicentennial organizer Rita Ibershoff, several photos from the collection of the late Paul Owens, superintendent of the old US Shoe Corporation from 1951-1965 will be on display.
“Countless individuals from he Crothersville are have contributed to this year’s effort in the Antiques Building,” said Ibershoff. Items on display date from early 19th century to mid-20th century. She reminded area residents that a similar display will be set up in Crothersville during the sesquicentennial. Residents interested in adding to the display are encouraged to contract Ibershoff soon to arrange for their artifact to be included.
Also at the fair this year will be a group of musicians including Crothersville native Dolly Bradshaw who will entertain at the pavilion in front of the antiques building. Bradshaw will be performing with her group at 6:30 p.m. this Friday, July 25.
Crochet and needlepoint artist Kim Jones of Crothersville entered an afghan “Old Glory” in the family arts competition and earned a second place ribbon. The Afghan was made expressly for a fund raising raffle for the sesquicentennial committee. The afghan will be on display at town hall beginning next Monday, Ibershoff said. Tickets are available at Aunt Samantha’s.
Crothersville’s Sesquicentennial celebration will take place September 11-14.
Fund for the Crothersville Sesquicentennial and Crothersville Area Revitalization and Development are administered by the Community Foundation of Jackson County. Funds raised by the committee will be used to help finance the fall festival.
