In one of the shorter meetings in recent months, the Crothersville Town Council breezed through a number of town matters when they met Sept. 2
Dan Wight, town engineer with FPBH of North Vernon, got approval for a test well to be drilled neat the town’s current well as a part of the town’s planned high tower and water main expansion to better serve Crothersville utility customers.
On a related water matter, Clerk-Treasurer Danieta Foster explained that so far only 12 of the town’s 750 utility customers have responded to the lead service pipe survey.
The State of Indiana is making a push to remove lead from water lines and if there is sufficient response, the community could be in line for a grant to remediate lead harmful to local health.
The deadline for residents to respond to the survey is Oct. 1, she said.
Wright also informed the council that the Preston Street paving, a part of the CCMG grant, will begin later this month. Wright said paving contractors agreed to accommodate school hours and work from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to not adversely disrupt school traffic.
The council unanimously approved second reading of an ordinance to prohibit parking on both sides of Industrial Way. Semi tractor-trailer drivers waiting to deliver raw products or pick up finished goods have been parking along the town street awaiting loading or unloading which has resulted in traffic snarls in the industrial park.
The council gave the Parks Board permission to negotiate with Crothersville Community Schools to lease the restroom building at Bard Street Park. According to town officials, the restroom— a frequent victim of vandalism— no long has a water supply and the sewer serving the facility has collapsed. The school reportedly wants to us the concrete block building near the boys and girls high school ball fields to store field maintenance equipment.
The council set Crothersville trick or treat hours for 6-9 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 31.
