For the 40-some golf carts and UTV’s registered to operate on the streets of Crothersville, seats belts will no longer be required. The Crothersville Town Council unanimously approved the change at their June 7 council meeting.
The change was suggested by Chief of Police Matt Browning during the council’s May meeting. Browning pointed out that installing seatbelts on the slower moving, more open golf carts is expensive and could lead to unintended injuries if there are collisions between golf carts and cars or trucks.
While seat belts will no longer be required to be installed, the annual registration fee to operate a golf cart or UTV will remain at $25 per year.
