Opening on Valentine’s Day, The Fantasticks, the world’s longest-running musical, is a classic at JCCT. The Fantasticks offers an enchanting look at the journey of young love through captivating music and poignant storytelling. Set against a simple yet mythical backdrop, the narrative centers on Luisa and Matt (played by Tasha Shaw and Leonel Jiminez), two innocent teenagers who fall in love, only to discover the complexities of life beyond their neighboring backyards. Their fathers, Hucklebee (Landon Whitson) and Bellomy (Tom Franke), set up a Romeo and Juliet scenario to ensure that their offspring fall in love. The plot is carried along by the suave El Gallo (Matt Nieman), and two has-been actors named Henry and Mortimer (Horace Tucker and Dakota Bland) who magically appear on the stage. A silent character, The Mute (Sam Dyer), quietly remains onstage to expertly provide props and set pieces as needed. A whimsical tale of romance and reality, this production features memorable lyrics and soothing melodies that have charmed audiences for generations. From the enduring favorite “Try to Remember,” to playful and heartfelt ballads, the score of The Fantasticks perfectly complements this touching story of love’s trials and treasures.

Larry Hartley is directing the show, with Andrew Dick as production manager.  Amanda Dick is in charge of costumes and props. The Joe Crew (Bradley, Reynolds, McGill) are building the set.
