Three men were sentenced to prison terms last week by Scott Circuit Court Judge Jason Mount.
The three sentences were the result of open pleas. “An open plea is a plea in which the defendant pleads guilty and the sentence is left up to Court following a hearing.” Said Scott County Prosecutor Chris Owens.

Last Thursday, Gary Reynolds, 49, of Floyd Knobs, was sentenced to nine years for felony possession of methamphetamine. This matter stemmed from a traffic stop by Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Donovan McCutcheon in May 2023. During the traffic stop the officer located methamphetamine and other controlled substances in the vehicle, Owens said.

That same day Justin Simpson, 26, of Nabb was sentenced to three years in prison for violating his home detention and probation. Simpson received an additional six months of jail time for committing driving while intoxicated and conspiracy to trafficking with an inmate outside of the jail.

On Friday Christopher A. Trick, 36, of Austin, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for felony dealing in methamphetamine. This matter stemmed from Deputy Charlie Morgan of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office locating Trick, who had a warrant for his arrest for violating his parole. Officer Morgan placed Trick in his vehicle in order to continue investigating. When Officer Morgan returned to his vehicle, he noticed Trick attempting to hide over 100 grams of methamphetamine by kicking it under the seat of the vehicle, Owens said
“The Scott County Prosecutor’s Office is committed to removing criminals from the streets of our community,” he stated. “We will fight to see that people who possess large amounts of drugs and people who refuse to change their criminal ways are held responsible for their actions.”
Deputy Prosecutor Mark Kiesler handled the cases for the prosecution that resulted in the prison sentenced.
