The delicate spring wildflower, Dutchman’s Breeches, is a perennial which blooms briefly in the early spring. It is found in moist shaded woodland soils usually along creeks and streams. The flowers actually have four petals with the two inner petals being very small. The pair of outer petals form a swollen ‘V’ making the hanging flower look like a pair of breeches hanging upside-down, thus giving it its name.
