A two car crash on I-65 near Crothersville injured six and closed the southbound lanes of the interstate.
Indiana State Police reported that around 7:30 a.m. Monday morning, Kirk McConner, 20, of Grand Rapids, MI was north bound on Interstate 65 just north of the 38 Mile Marker near Crothersville, driving a 2008 Mercury Milan when he apparently fell asleep. The vehicle crossed the median into the south bound lanes of Interstate 65 and struck a 2005 Subaru being driven by Manabu Yoshiike, 58, of Columbus.
There were four passengers in the 2008 Mercury Milan: Cheryl McConner, 46, Latisha Riley, 32, Anthony Tate, 17, and Chakita Trotter, 9, all of Grand Rapids, MI were transported to area hospitals with serious injuries. The driver, Kirk McConner sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the 2005 Subaru, Manabu Yoshiike was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
Southbound interstate traffic was diverted from Uniontown through Crothersville on US 31 causing traffic back-ups locally.
Trooper Seth Davidson of the Indiana State Police Post at Seymour is the investigating trooper in this crash.
Assisting at the scene were Jackson County E.M.S., Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, Scott County Sheriff’s Department, and the Crothersville-Vernon Township Volunteer Fire Department.
