The Scottsburg City Council has given preliminary approval for tax abatements to allow Genpak LLC to renovate their facilities, modernize manufacturing lines and add 45 new jobs paying over $22 per hour..
Genpak LLC, located on a little over 10 acres at 845 S. Elm on the city’s southside, is a manufacturer of plastic packaging for the food service industry, restaurants, convenience stores, and grocery stores.
The company, headquartered in Charlotte, NC, seeks to invest $4.9 million to renovate and modernize and existing structure as well as invest $5.56 million to replace polyethylene terephthalate (PET) production equipment with modernized polystyrene advanced production equipment.
The upgrade includes the installation of two advanced extruders and four state-of-the-art thermoformers, designed to enhance operational efficiency and meet evolving market demands. The project will also include the addition of silos, a roll storage facility, and other necessary ancillary infrastructure to support the new production capabilities
The company is seeking a $10.46 million tax abatement in real property and business equipment. If approved the company has committed to 45 additional job with an annual payroll of over $2.12 million.
The real estate owner, Jim Pattison Developments Inc. is seeking a 10-year tax abatement on the $4.9 million investment. And the personal property equipment would receive a 5-year abatement.
The city council will meet on Monday, Feb. 10, at 5 p.m. to give final consideration to the matter.
