On Thursday, July 28, Charles Matthew Nealis, 34, of Scottsburg plead guilty via a plea agreement of dealing methamphetamine and will serve eight years in prison sentence, according to Scott County Prosecutor Chris Owens.
This conviction stemmed from an investigation of the Indiana State Police in which they used a confidential informant to purchase methamphetamine from Nealis at his Washington Street residence on Dec. 14, 2021, the prosecutor said. After the controlled buy, charges were filed and a warrant was issued for his arrest. When serving the arrest warrant at Nealis residence, officers with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office located drugs and drug paraphernalia were found in the home.
“It is important that offenders are held accountable for their criminal actions, but it is also important that those sentenced to prison participate in programming while there so that they can re-enter society an improved person. This sentence allows Mr. Nealis the chance to show he can be a productive member of our community upon his release and
allows him an opportunity to receive the tools he needs to do this,” Owens said.
Deputy Prosecutor Mark Kiesler handled the prosecution, he added.
