On Friday, May 30, 2025, Kalan Lee Bowling, 32, of Scottsburg was sentenced to 12 years in prison for dealing in a narcotic drug.
In January of 2023, Officers with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Scottsburg Police Department, and Jennings County
Sheriff’s Office used a confidential informant and an undercover officer to conduct multiple controlled purchases of nearly 400 pressed fentanyl pills from Kalan Bowling. After arresting Kalan Bowling, the officers located over 400 additional pressed fentanyl pills at his residence at 342 N. Main Street in Scottsburg.
According to Scott County Prosecutor Chris Owens, Bowling entered into an open plea agreement to a Level 3 Felony, and on May 30, Scott Circuit Court Judge Jason Mount sentenced him to 12 years. This sentence is to be served in addition to four years for sentences issued in other counties for cases pending at the time of this offense, said Owens.
“Fentanyl, in any form, is a dangerous drug and it is the cause of many deaths across the country each year. The Scott County Prosecutor’s Office is committed to sending to prison anyone who is distributing this poison in our community,” said Owens. “Our community is safer with these pills off the street and with this offender locked up. Law enforcement did a great job to remove both from our streets.”
During the Jan. 12, 2023 arrest, in addition to the fentanyl, $8,292 in cash was seized at Bowling’s residence. According to court records in April 2023 the confiscated cash was forfeited and ordered by the court distributed to Scott County Prosecutor’s Office, $2,761.24; the Scottsburg Police Department, $2,350.00; Scott County Sheriff’s Department, $2,3501.15; and $829.61 to the Common School Fund.
Deputy Prosecutor Mark Kiesler handled the prosecution that led to the sentencing.
