Scott County School District 1 will be holding two public hearing to consider some high dollar maintenance projects for the school system,

According to School Superintendent Trevor Jones, the school system is looking to spend up to $2.5 million on a number of maintenance projects.

“As our debt is paid off the debt service rate decreases so this project will not mean a property tax increase,” he said.

Among the projects planned include roof repairs to the middle/high school, parking lot improvements at all school facilities, new lockers at the middle and high school, replacing the hardwood floor at Rigel Gymnasium, and HVAC improvements at the middle/high schools.

“Just like our homes, we must do periodic maintenance and repairs at the school system as well,” said Jones.

The middle and high school are over 20 years old and in need to roof work, student lockers need replaced, and heating and air conditioning needs upgraded, he said.

The school board will be holding its first pubic hearing next Monday, June 23 at 6:30 p.m. in the school district’s central office. A second public hearing will be held on Monday, July 21, to consider the needed upgrades.
