Scott County Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Hooker began an investigation on Thursday, Jan. 15, on a report of theft of jewelry from a county resident. The victims reported multiple pieces of jewelry were missing from their rural Scott County home which was being remodeled, according to Sheriff Jerry Goodin.

Deputy Kyle West joined the investigation that resulted in the recovery of nearly all of the stolen jewelry. Charged with the theft was Gregory A. Purgerson, 55, of the 1100 block of West Van Campen Road south of Austin.
The victim was able to positively identify the recovered jewelry, and Purgerson was booked into Scott County Jail, at 2:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 20.
Sheriff Goodin commended the deputies, for their professionalism, work ethic, and for conducting thorough investigations.
Pergerson was charged with theft of over $750 in value in Scott Circuit Court on Thursday, Jan. 22. He was released from jail at 4 p.m. Jan. 23 after posting a $15,000 bond.
