Indiana State Police Troopers arrested a Scottsburg man on felony drug charges after he crashed his car on U.S. 31 in Clark County north of Henryville last Wednesday.
According to ISP Sgt Carey Huls, shortly before 3 a.m. on Wednesday morning, March 6, Trooper Taylor Wolfe responded to the report of a single-vehicle roll-over crash on U.S. 31 near Brownstown Road. Responding officers were also alerted that the driver was removing articles from the car and placing them in a wooded area near the crash.
At the scene, officers identified the diver as Nathan Baldwin, 35, of Scottsburg. Officers believe Baldwin attempted to avoid deer on the wet roadway and lost control of his Chevrolet Camaro. The vehicle left the roadway and overturned in a ditch on the west side of the road.
While continuing the investigation, officers located a backpack lying in the woods. The backpack contained suspected cocaine and methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia and information linking the backpack to Baldwin, according to ISP.
After ambulance personnel cleared Baldwin at the scene, he was arrested and incarcerated in Clark County Jail for unlawful possession of firearm by a felon, dealing in a narcotic drug, dealing in methamphetamine, obstruction of justice, possession of legend drug injection devices, and possession of paraphernalia.
