A Salem man and woman were jailed after a burglary was reported Tuesday, July 16, at the Roseland Storage Facility in the 1600 block of West McClain.
Captain Joseph Johnson and First Sergeant Johnney Coomer of the Scott County Sheriff’s Department conducted the investigation and identified the suspects after viewing video imagery at the business leading to the identification Jasper Marie Barkley, 31, and James L. Strothoff, 49, both of the 2400 block of N Eunice Drive in Salem.
On July 17, Detective Donovan McCutcheon of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office located both Barkley and Strothoff at a residence in rural Washington County, along with various stolen articles from the burglaries and other items believed stolen from victims in surrounding counties.
Property was recovered from the residence that may be from another burglary or theft performed by these two people. Authorities said anyone who has been the victim of a recent storage unit burglary or theft should contact their local police agency for assistance.
Barkley and Strothoff were transported to the Washington County Jail. Both suspects were arrested for burglary, theft, possession of stolen property, obstruction of justice, and possession of illegal substances. Additionally, both Barkley and Strothoff were wanted on outstanding warrants Clark and Jennings Counties
The pair were charged July 18 on Washington County charges of possession of methamphetamine, possession of narcotic drug, possession of a syringe, possession of controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Washington Circuit Court Judge Larry Medlock set each of the bonds at $10,000 full cash on those charges. They remain in custody in Washington County.
