The Crothersville Town Council approved the sale of the former Crothersville Police Station at 404 Moore Street when they met June 4. Foster Bros. Properties LLC agreed to purchase the property at the corner of Moore and Preston Streets for $80,000.
The sale allows the town to repay a loan from itself of around $33,000 that was used to repair the roof at the current police station on North Armstrong Street.
The sale also allows the town to fund a 2024 Dodge Durango police vehicle. The price of the new vehicle is $71,759. A $9,000 trade-in allowance for three 2017 Ford Explorer police vehicles would have lowered the price to $62,759. However, the council balked at getting only $3,000 per used police vehicle.
“I think we could do better than that if we kept them and offered them for sale by sealed bids,” said councilman Jamy Greathouse.
An online automotive pricing guide had the vehicles selling in the $10,000 range each.
The council agreed to us $41,400 in federal ARPA funds and pay the balance of the vehicle with proceeds from the sale of the police station property.
In other business it was announced that the town had been approved by the state for $1.8 million in READI funding to be used help pay for an additional water tower at the town’s industrial park. The funding had earlier been approved for Jackson County’s effort to install a sewer at the I-65 and SR 250 interchange at Uniontown to facilitate economic growth. However, when costs escalated, the county opted to drop the project.
In a final matter, the council approved the design of a wall mural on the east side of town hall. Local artist Kyle McIntosh designed the wall depicting buildings and scenes of early Crothersville’s historic past. McIntosh was to have begun painting the mural during last weekend’s Red, White & Blue Festival.
