The Crothersville Parks and Recreation Board updated local residents on community survey results, reopened trails and a Disc Golf course soon to open at Countryside Park on the town’s west side.

Over the winter the board asked area residents and students to respond to a parks survey. According to Parks Board secretary Steve Plasse, 57 people responded to the survey to help the board assess improvement priorities to the three Crothersville Parks.

The top community priority at Bard Street Park is restrooms, followed by 2) Pickle Ball Courts, 3) Climbing Wall, 4) Exercise Stations and 5) 8′ Basketball goal

At Veterans’ Park, at the corner of Main Street and Pennsylvania Ave., a water fountain is the top community seen priority followed by 2) Charcoal Grill, 3) Electric for Gazebo and 4) a larger swingset

A soon-to-be installed disc golf course was the number one community priority at Countryside Park followed by 2) Trail Improvements, 3) Picnic Shelter near fire ring, 4) Pickle Ball Courts, and 5) Shade net/trees over playground

The top five activities residents would like offered at parks:

1) Music in the Park

2) Summer programs for kids

3) Fun run/walk that includes all three parks

4) Parks website with curriculum and activity suggestions

5) Naturalist walks on trails

“Based on the large number of residents who wanted a disc golf course built, Park Board members purchased a 9 disc golf goals last December and have been clearing deadfall trees that had made the trails at Countryside impassable,” said Plasse. “The Board is happy to announce that the trails are open, mowed, and ready for explorers, walkers, and runners. Two local disc golfers designed a course on the trails and have worked with the board to create a course that uses existing trails but will leave room for running and walking as well.”

He reported that this Saturday, June 15, parks board and disc golf enthusiasts and volunteers plan to meet to install most of the goals beginning at 9 a.m.

“The Crothersville Parks and Recreation Board has a small annual budget, but we have worked to spend funds wisely on lasting assets for the parks,” said Plasse.

The Board lost one member in May and is looking for a replacement to serve a 4 year term and join the other members as they work to improve access to outdoor recreation in Crothersville. Interested applicants should send a letter of interest to the Town of Crothersville, Plasse said.
