Drivers waiting at the temporary signal to cross the U.S. 31 bridge between Crothersville and Austin are encouraged to pull forward to the white stop bar on the pavement next to the “Stop Here on Red” sign.
For the past several weeks both northbound and southbound traffic are sharing one lane across the bridge with the temporary signal controlling traffic. Bridge crews are rehabilitating the bridge in phases this year under a contract with the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). Later this summer, traffic will be shifted to allow the bridge rehab work to be completed.
Sensors or “loops” are embedded into the pavement at the white stop bars and “Stop Here on Red” signs to detect waiting traffic. It’s important that drivers stop where directed by signage and pavement markings so that traffic flow is optimized.
