Kim Girts of rural Crothersville shows one of his larger 50-pound pumpkins he grew in his garden this summer. He reported several in the 40-pound range as well.
Unfortunately, the first-year gardener can not reveal any green thumb secrets. “I don’t have any,” he said. “I planted the seeds and they grew.”
While Girts’ 50-pound pumpkin may be dwarfed by the half-ton behemoths seen on television, for a first time effort, it’s not a bad start.
