Area property owners will soon be receiving their annual property tax bills for local governmental services.
Jackson County
Jackson County Treasurer Kathy Hohenstreiter announced that property tax bills payable in 2024 are expected to be mailed next week.
“Tax rates have been certified and tax bills are expected to be mailed next Tuesday, April 9,” Hohenstreiter said
The spring installment will be due by Friday, May 10 with the Fall installment payable by Tuesday, Nov. 12, she said.
“Please keep in mind that there is only one mail date with coupons for both the Spring and Fall.,” she added.
There are several methods to pay taxes by using the following options.
•Mail payments. Payments must be postmarked by the due date at the Post office to insure on time payments. If you include a self-addressed stamped envelope with your payment-we will mail you a receipt of your payment.
•Payments may be made at the Treasurer’s office in Brownstown, Indiana.
•Drop box payments. Drop box is located on the back entrance of the historic courthouse. Payments posted the following day. Payments placed in drop box on due date are considered on time payments
•Payments at Bank. Tax payments can be made at Medora State Bank located in Medora. The Peoples Bank will not be accepting tax payments this year.
•Online payments. Payments may be made with debit, echeck or credit card. Visit our county website www.jacksoncounty.in.gov. Links will be located on lower left corner of the homepage-click pay taxes here or by visiting the Forte pay site at https://billpay.forte.net/jacksoncointax or call 877-690-3729 enter JCODE 2498. There is a $4 charge for debit, $2 for echeck up to $50,000. Credit card payments charge different rates depending on the card.
Scott County
Scott County Treasurer Missy Appplegate reported property tax bills are planned on being mailed out on Wednesday, April 10.
•Taxes can be paid in person at 1 E. McClain Avenue Suite 140, Scottsburg, IN 47170 with cash, check or card.
•Checks for tax payments can be mailed to the Treasurer’s office at 1 E. McClain Avenue Suite 140, Scottsburg, IN 47170
•Payments can be made at Scott County branches of Wesbanco, New Washington State Bank and Stock Yards Bank.
•Over the phone payments can be made by dialing 812-419-3510
•Online: https://govpayments.com/in_scott paying by check will charge a $2.50 fee and paying by card will charge a 2.90% on the tax you pay.
